Certified Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation for VRV IV - DEU19-017

20/06/2019

Closing the loop: Daikin moves one step closer towards a circular economy for HVAC-R industry

Innovator in HVAC-R Daikin has announced another sustainability first with the launch of its Certified Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation initiative.

Daikin already provides market leading energy efficiency with its newly launched VRV IV+ range – and now a new initiative introducing Certified Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation offers another way for customers to further reduce the environmental impact of air conditioning systems. Choosing a product with Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation means you support the reuse of refrigerant and avoid more than 150,000 kg of virgin gas being produced each year.

Delivering on Daikin’s environmental vision

The introduction of certified reclaimed refrigerant is a core component of Daikin’s vision to support the development of a circular economy, which aims to design out waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use and regenerate natural systems.

Building a circular economy is part of Daikin’s wider strategy to minimise environmental effects throughout the entire life cycle of its products, from procurement and manufacture to recovery and recycling. The reclamation of refrigerants is essential to this process.

What does Certified Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation mean?

Exclusive to Daikin, the “Certified Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation” designation assures customers of both the quality and quantity of the reclaimed refrigerant. Assessed by an independent laboratory, the reclaimed refrigerant used by Daikin is the same quality as virgin refrigerant and meets AHRI700 standards.

An independent audit process also ensures that the reclaimed gas is allocated administratively to 100% of the factory charge of the VRV IV+ heat recovery and VRV IV S-series units, produced in our Ostend factory. This means that these units support the F-gas regulation by recovery and reclaim within the European Union.

Better for you, better for the environment

Buying a VRV IV+ Heat Recovery or Mini-VRV unit with Certified Reclaimed Refrigerant Allocation helps to avoid more than 150,000 kg of virgin gas being introduced into the market each year, giving what is waste today value.

Furthermore, customers benefit from being able to access products with the strongest environmental credentials, as well as high energy efficiency. Making a more sustainable choice in turn helps raise industry awareness of the need for and the benefits of recovering and reusing refrigerants.

Making a positive choice

Mr. Toshitaka Tsubouchi, Vice-president of Daikin Europe says:

“As an industry, we are only at the start of our journey to create a circular economy of refrigerant supply, usage, recovery and reclamation. We now allocate reclaimed refrigerant to our Mini-VRV and VRV IV+ heat recovery range, but this is just the beginning. We want to inspire our customers to make a positive choice and to help us to recover the huge quantity of available refrigerant in existing installations.”

The new VRV IV+ heat recovery and VRV IV S-series are now available to order. More information will soon be available on Daikin’s pilot schemes to help customers recover refrigerant from their existing installations, so that it can be reclaimed to meet AHRI700 standards.
